Nov 22, 2021 This is a cautionary tale about too easily accepting assertions and rumors as fact. The story starts exactly 58 years ago today, when I was a senior in Lenape High School in New Jersey listening to the announcement that President Kennedy had been shot. A few days later, I drove with friends to Washington to attend the funeral procession. Seeing the cortege with my fallen president’s casket pass by was an unforgettable emotional experience. Eventually experts from each major religion will be invited to create a Timeline describing the significant events in their faith. We chose a brief glimpse of Hinduism for this test, because it is known for encompassing vast amounts of time. According to the Indian sacred text, the Vedas, the lifespan of Brahma (creator god) lasts for 100 of his years. His 12-hour day and 12-hour night each last for 4.32 billion human years. 311.04 trillion human years is said to be the duration of one breath of “Vishnu” (the ultimate god in the Hindu religion).
